How about some more remakes for your Monday? THR says that the 1976 girl-group drama Sparkle is getting a redo, and Jordin Sparks has nabbed the female lead. (Sorry, other singer-actresses up for the role! Your last name wasn’t irresistibly similar to the movie’s title.) Jumping the Broom director Salim Akil will helm the film, and he’s currently wooing Whitney Houston to play mom to Sparks; as THR reminds us, Houston has long wanted to remake Sparkle, and was once attached to produce a version that would star Aaliyah.
