Alicia Keys to Compose Music for Broadway

Alicia Keys has been busy producing the November debut of Stick Fly, a play about a wealthy black family that stars Dule Hill and Mekhi Phifer, but she's got something new up her sleeve to lure in those out-of-town tourists who might be expecting a little more from her. Keys announced today that she'll also be composing new music for the play, saying, "As someone who walked up and down this boulevard as a young girl, I cannot describe the thrill of having the opportunity of composing songs for a Broadway show." The only tricky part? Stick Fly isn't a musical, and it's not yet known how the songs will be incorporated. Still, when Alicia Keys says she wants to write music for your Broadway show, you say yes and figure out the hard stuff later. [ArtsBeat/NYT]
