Warner Bros. is taking a bit of a risk with its unusual decision to release Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in 200 IMAX theaters five days earlier than its regular December 21 release date, but this should make that strategy a bit more palatable: The first six minutes of The Dark Knight Rises are set to screen before the movie as an extended trailer. Such a move had been rumored for a while (indeed, The Dark Knight attached its own prologue to I Am Legend back in December 2007), but a rep for AMC Theaters inadvertently confirmed it yesterday via an announcement that the Rises footage will only screen at 70mm IMAX screens, not those tinier wannabe IMAX locations.
