John Cusack and Johnny Knoxville have signed on for lead roles in Carnaval, about a sports agent (Cusack) who heads to Rio de Janeiro during the annual pre-Lent festivities to recruit a soccer star. Knoxville plays Cusack's BFF who joins him on the trip and accidentally winds up falling for the soccer star's girlfriend. The story's loosely based on screenwriter (and former agent himself) David Styne's actual travels to Brazil, and sounds not unlike, oh, Hangover 2, in which some cool bros experience a foreign culture through their pursuit of strange and specific goals, only to discover a little something about themselves. And friendship. But hey, at least it'll be silly John Cusack, not old-fashioned beardy John Cusack. [THR]
