Magic Mike Release Date Pits Channing Tatum Against Himself

On June 29, you're going to see more of Channing Tatum than you ever have before — and by that, we're not simply referring to Magic Mike, the male stripper movie that Warner Bros. just acquired and set for release on that very day. Unfortunately, June 29 also happens to be the debut of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, a very different movie about biceps and Channing Tatum, but with more guns. The head-to-head release of two high-profile films with the same movie star is certainly unusual, though next year may be full of such face-offs, since Leonardo DiCaprio already has The Great Gatsby and Django Unchained butting heads on Christmas 2012. Still, at least it grants Magic Mike some unusual tie-in possibilities that month: Just take the Channing Tatum action figure you get at Toys"R"Us and strip him of his fatigues! [Deadline]
