NYC Performance Artist Gives Birth in Gallery

Here's one challenge we don't expect to see replicated on Work of Art anytime soon: New York–based performance artist Marni Kotak gave birth to her first son, Ajax, at the Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn yesterday. Kotak's delivery was the culmination of her current exhibition, "The Birth of Baby X" — she had previously set up a home-birth center at the gallery, and will now include a video of the birth in the exhibition for the unlucky patrons who happened to miss what Kotak calls "the highest form of art." The Washington Post and Village Voice both have more details on the unusual exhibit, though neither mentions whether a curator immediately stuck a red sticker onto Ajax's head after it emerged from the birth canal.
