The X Factor Will Cut Five of Its Acts Tomorrow

THE X FACTOR: THE X FACTOR is the new competition series that gives viewers the opportunity to help choose the next global superstar or breakout music group. Judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger will travel the nation searching for undiscovered talent. Hosted by Steve Jones, the two-night series premiere will showcase the live auditions which took place in front of audiences of thousands, around the country Wednesday, Sept. 21 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Sept. 22 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The X Factor announced today that five of its remaining seventeen acts will be eliminated on Tuesday’s special two-and-a-half-hour episode. That’s one whole elimination every 30 minutes! Talk about pacing. On the one hand, anything that winnows down X Factor’s ridiculous list of contenders is a welcome relief — Rachel Crow is talented and precocious, but do a lot of people really want to buy a 13-year-old’s album? On the other, the show’s just spent weeks and weeks trying to get us invested in these people. What about their dreams and all?
