Everybody in Atlanta wants to be an extra on The Walking Dead, but only a lucky 200 of the 6,000 applicants get to don the lesion-ridden rotting flesh and call themselves zombies. It’s a noble calling, too, because according to the Times, “the pay is meager, the hours are long, the weather is steamy, and even their friends barely recognize them, staggering around in the background, coated in fake blood and corpse-gray paint.” But at least you get to go to zombie school or hear zombie direction from makeup wizard and Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero, who gives “detailed advice on flailing and growling” and then instructs zombies to “go ‘munch, munch, munch, munch.’” Ah, if only the actual dialogue on The Walking Dead could be as good as “munch, munch, munch, munch.” Warning: gross zombie photo in article.
