No big surprise given Ashton Kutcher’s recent tabloid appearances, but Demi Moore has filed for divorce after six years of marriage to Kutcher. In her statement to the Associated Press, Moore said that “as a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.” Given the anodyne nature of most celebrity statements this is notably straightforward: Dude broke vows. Which ones could they be?! But, really, beyond all that sordid stuff, some other questions: (1) What will TV/movies/news shows do now when they want a timely reference for a relationship between an older woman and a younger man? Glee, for example, just had an Ashton and Demi reference this week. Will they continue to use Ashton and Demi? Will their love, now gone, forever be shorthand for this particular romantic arrangement? (2) When will Demi be changing her Twitter handle from @mrskutcher? UPDATE: Kutcher has spoken: ” I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK.”
