comebacks

R. Kelly Will Now Sing to You About His Surgery

After yesterday’s Soula Coaster: the Diary of Me news, it is hard to believe that this week could possibly get any better for R. Kelly enthusiasts. But this morning, the man himself took to Twitter with the following update: “It’s been a long time coming but I finally feel a lot better about my throat since the surgery and this is the first song I wrote.” R. Kelly is singing again! He’s okay! And he has some career-related thoughts to share with the class. The song in question, “Shut Up,” goes in on everyone who doubted his prognosis or career during his July tonsil emergency — as best we can tell, this was basically everyone but God, his fans, and his doctors (shout-out to the M.D.s for staying focused through the surgery). Our favorite part is the repeated “O.M.G” chorus (“Now, no offense to the other artists, but let’s be honest, how many babies been made off of me? O-M-G”), or the rustling paper bit when he pulls out his list of haters, but there’s something here for everyone. (Even if it’s just the Adele-related reassurance that people do actually make comebacks after throat surgery.)  Anyway, welcome back, Kelz!
