After nine years, ABC is finally ready to say goodbye to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The Ty Pennington-hosted heartwarmer was spun off from an unlikely source, ABC’s plastic-surgery bonanza Extreme Makeover, but quickly became a family-friendly Sunday staple for the network. As ratings dipped, however, ABC shuttled Home Edition to Friday in order to open up its old time slot to scripted programming like Once Upon a Time, and today, the network announced that the series finale will air next month, to be followed by occasional specials whenever ABC needs to goose up the schedule with a little bit of anticipatory van-moving.
