Critics’ Choice Nominations Boost Artist, Hugo, Drive

The Artist.

Critics’ groups have been going wild for The Artist and Hugo this season, and the Broadcast Film Critics Association is no different: Both movies led the nominations for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards with eleven nods each. But there are a few fun choices here, mostly owing to the fact that every major Critics’ Choice category was open to six nominees instead of the usual five. Elizabeth Olsen made it into Best Actress for Martha Marcy May Marlene, Andy Serkis stormed Best Supporting Actor for his mo-cap work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Drive managed a stellar eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Director. Hey, if awards groups manage to recognize some people from this movie beyond just Albert Brooks, we’ll be satisfied.
