Lionsgate Open to an Eighth Saw Movie

The grotesque, mutilation-porn horror franchise Saw hasn’t seen its last day just yet: An eighth (holy baloney) installment is part of Lionsgate’s future, an executive said this week. “I’m sure, someday, you’ll see Saw back in the picture,” vice chairman Michael Burns said on Squawk on the Street. Vague! Vague enough to be akin to a parental “we’ll see.” But it’s part of what Burns identified as Lionsgate’s franchise-focused plan: The Hunger Games, a second Expendables, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and the recently acquired Chaos Walking YA series. “We believe very strongly that if you have some built-in marketing and brands, that’s a good way to go.” And we believe very strongly that Rube Goldberg death contraptions have diminishing returns, but okay.
