Uggie Won’t Be at the Oscars? WHAT?!

Uggie the do

Is this real life? Mysteriously ill Uggie, the wonder-dog from The Artist, was supposed to make his final public appearance at the Oscars before retiring for good, and rumor had it that he would participate in a skit with host Billy Crystal on the night that his swan song feature is expected to take top honors. But … well, you had better sit down. (Seriously: Sit. Sit. Sit. Good dog.) Now a rep for the Weinstein Company tells the BBC that Uggie has “not been asked to participate or appear at the Oscars,” which would appear to contradict those earlier reports unless the Weinsteins are straight-up lying to us for purposes of secrecy. Still, if this is true … first, no Muppets, and now, no Uggie? Are the Oscars trying to alienate the very valuable audience demographics of movie bloggers and kids ages 3–7? Insanity! Uggsanity! #draftwoola
