Since The Walking Dead began airing on AMC, fans of Robert Kirkman’s original graphic novels have been excitedly anticipating the arrival of The Governor, a cruel and sadistic character who rules his own group of survivors and proves more dangerous than any zombie. In fact, some fans have speculated that Merle (Michael Rooker) could end up as the Governor; today, though, that speculation was definitely settled as producers decided on British actor David Morrissey to fill the role in season three. Morrissey is perhaps best known for his lead role in the British miniseries State of Play, but he also played the male lead in Basic Instinct 2, so he’s no stranger to horror.
