DC Comics announced its plan today for a Before Watchmen series of comic books that would take a prequel look at Rorschach, the Comedian, Silk Spectre, Nite Owl, Dr. Manhattan, Ozymandias, and the Minutemen in general. What a cool idea that should never, ever be attempted! Each comic book will also include two pages of "Curse of the Crimson Corsair," a pirate-comic parallel that is roughly analogous to "The Black Freighter" from the original. David Gibbons, the artist from the originals, gave his blessing, but unsurprisingly, creator Alan Moore has not. He told the Times that this is "completely shameless." "I don't want money," he said. "What I want is for this not to happen." Oh, look on these works, ye mighty, and despair.
