Iggy Azalea and T.I. Aren’t Here to Make Friends

When Iggy Azalea landed a spot on XXL’s Freshman class cover last month — the first woman ever included, for what it’s worth — fellow flower-rapper Azealia Banks (somewhat predictably) immediately piped up to share her less-than-enthusiastic thoughts on the matter. Banks has a habit of throwing shade in almost all directions, but the takeaway from this little incident was that the up-and-coming female rapper set would not be banding together in a BFF situation, even in the interest of furthering the lady-rapper cause more generally. So now, on “Murda Bizness,” Azalea’s official debut single from Interscope, Iggy is firing shots right back at the other women — literally, as in she raps out the sounds, but also drops charmers like, “If you was on fire, I wouldn’t piss on y’all hoes.” (Presumably that also applies to any other maladies that can be treated by human urine, so, pro tip, don’t get stung by a jellyfish when Iggy Azalea is around.) As he was during the initial Azealia beef, T.I. is on hand for backup, though to Iggy’s credit, her flow is more aggressive than her interview presence. One stray thought: Does anyone else think she’s starting to sound like Sookie Stackhouse around the edges? Is this what happens every time an Aussie/Kiwi type tries to speak in a Southern accent?
