Chronicle Director May Make Venom Movie

Before Gary Ross signed on to write and direct the upcoming, highly anticipated feature film version of The Hunger Games, he was trying to make Venom, a Spider-Man spinoff, for Sony. Now the studio has begun negotiations with another of 2012's most successful directors for the job: Josh Trank, who helmed Chronicle. That movie's primary character was an antihero with superpowers, which makes Trank a fitting choice for Venom, since the inky comic-book mainstay was originally conceived as a villain (and was featured in Spider-Man 3). Here, he'll be a little more sympathetic, though you still wouldn't ask him to sit down on your nice couch. (Too messy!)
