Lena Dunham’s new HBO series Girls has been relentlessly compared to Sex and the City, so when we ran into Kim Cattrall last night at the New York Academy of Art’s Tribeca Ball honoring Robert De Niro, we had to find out whether she’d actually gotten to see the Dunham show yet. “Everyone has been asking me that since [the article in] Friday’s New York Times!” she exclaimed. “I haven’t watched it yet.” We told Cattrall about Zosia Mamet’s Girls character, who has a Sex and the City poster on her wall and strong opinions about which Sex character she would be, and Cattrall laughed. That’s hilarious!” Do people still come up to her to exclaim “I’m a total Samantha,” even if they’re so obviously a Charlotte? “It happens almost on a daily basis,” confessed Cattrall. “I think Bruno was the funniest. Sitting in a movie theater and hearing him say to those guys in the campfire, ‘I’m the Samantha.’ That made me laugh the most. That’s my favorite.”
