It’s not totally clear, based on the accompanying video, where Major Lazer and the Dirty Projector’s Amber Coffman are trapped, dreaming of a freer world. It looks like a marsh situation, maybe, in a society that does not value dinosaur bones enough to keep them in a museum. Geese still roam the Earth. The Major Lazer cartoon dude seems to have access to outer space? Anyway, the point is, he’s not happy, and Amber’s not happy, and she is still very good at putting that unhappiness into prettily swooping song. The result, “Get Free,” is a pleasingly mellow effort from Major Lazer, who keeps a light synthy touch and lets Coffman’s vocals do the hard work. Bonus: There are subtitles, in case you’ve been practicing your indie-yodel and want to sing along at home. Enjoy.
