In the seventies, high-school kids determined not to read were happy to have the Robert Redford–Mia Farrow adaptation of The Great Gatsby, but today's audiences are more sophisticated. We demand to see the green light in glorious 3-D! Judging from the trailer released today, the Baz Luhrmann version delivers. Twenties New York looks thrilling and vibrant, and there are plenty of opportunities to have bits of the the Great American Novel fly off the screen, from lavish confetti-strewn parties to Gatsby tossing around his beautiful shirts. Best of all, we don't have to imagine what it was like when Luhrmann blasted Jay-Z on set because the trailer kicks off with Kanye West and Jay-Z's "No Church in the Wild."
