Gomorrah Filmmakers May Have Paid Off Italian Mob

Italian prosecutors are looking into whether the team behind 2008's Gomorrah, the dark and very widely praised film about organized crime in Naples, may have gotten a little too close to the world they were chronicling. An informant has claimed that director Matteo Garrone, who just won the Grand Prix at Cannes for Reality, paid $26,000 to a mob kingpin in exchange for protection and cooperation while filming. And yet that Oscar snub still happened!
