In the new issue of Empire, writer David Goyer says that when he and Christopher Nolan met with Warner Bros. brass after the success of The Dark Knight, they had already decided who should play the villain in the sequel. “Obviously it’s gonna be The Riddler, and we want it to be Leonardo DiCaprio,” Goyer recalls them suggesting. We imagine that Nolan replied, “Obviously I’m casting a British actor whom I’ll make unrecognizable, and obviously, he’ll sound like an excited butler speaking into a subway intercom. Obviously.”
