Because it's always illuminating to hear what films Harvey Weinstein is loving this year that aren't his, Elvis Mitchell had the movie mogul on his radio show this week to wax rhapsodic about some of the entries coming for awards season (he's a big believer in Michael Haneke's Amour and Marion Cotillard's performance in Rust and Bone, and he's heard great stuff about Anna Karenina) and his favorite summer movies so far. The Avengers? "That movie is so well done and Joss [Whedon] is so talented," raved Weinstein. "It's so brilliantly told story-wise, the acting is off the charts." But it's Savages that really earned his ardor: "Oh my god Elvis, it's so good. Oliver [Stone] just kicked butt. Blake Lively? I mean, wow. Just wow. She stepped out of Femme Fatale," said Weinstein. "So sexy, so brilliant, and so hard-lived, the performance. Really great. Stunning. Astoundingly."
