With Dev out of the picture, Karen’s getting a new girlfriend. Vulture has learned Smash is adding Krysta Rodriguez as a series regular. Rodriguez, who is best known for originating the role of Wednesday Addams in Broadway’s Addams Family musical, will play Ana, Karen’s “fun and spunky” roommate who’s also trying to make it on the stage. New showrunner Josh Safran knew Rodriguez from his previous gig; she had the honor of being one of Nate’s early conquests on Gossip Girl, where Safran last served as executive producer. Leslie Odom Jr., who played Tom’s boyfriend Sam in the first season, has also been promoted to series regular, according to Deadline.
