Though he’s been Twitter campaigning for the gig all summer, Bret Easton Ellis has sadly been denied the opportunity to adapt Fifty Shades of Grey. “It’s a very major disappointment to announce that I’ve somehow been taken off the list of possible screenwriters for Fifty Shades of Grey,” he wrote. (Does Nikki Finke go by the nickname “somehow”?) And then he sent this crushing note directly to E. L. James: “I hope you find someone as passionate as I was about ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ I will miss it. Moving on. Laters, baby…” Awww. [Insert frown-y Christian Grey emoticon here.]
