Once upon a time, way back in 2000, a lowly SNL writer named Zach Galifianakis came up with a brilliant idea for a sketch for the show’s star, Will Ferrell, and the week’s host, Britney Spears. “We were going to shrink him through the magic of television and put him inside her bellybutton as her bellybutton’s bodyguard,” Galifianakis explains to MovieFone. Sadly, the pitch did not go over well at the table read. “There was not one laugh for four minutes,” he says. “Will is just, like, reading.” In hindsight, though, has any belly button needed a bodyguard more than Spears’s in the last twelve years?
