Anna Kendrick is following up Pitch Perfect with another music-heavy role. She’s apparently onboard to star in the film adaptation of stage musical The Last Five Years, according to Moviehole. She’d play Cathy, the female lead. The play uses a split narrative to trace the arc of a failed relationship: Cathy tells her story in reverse chronological order, starting with the end of her marriage, while her eventually ex-husband Jamie tells his story in regular chronological order, starting with their courtship. (The characters only overlap on their wedding day.) Between this and playing Cinderella in a recent Into the Woods reading, Kendrick has really positioned herself as the go-to starlet who can sing. Sorry, Anne Hathaway!
