Just a few weeks ago, Fox Searchlight decided to move Hitchock's release up to November 23 so it could be considered for this year's Oscars and so the marketing people can make Black Friday jokes in the ads. This is the second Hitchcock behind-the-scenes biopic coming out this fall, after HBO's The Girl, which debuts on October 20. Hitchcock appears to be a bit more of a romp, what with its talk of breasts and finger finger sandwiches. It follows the making of Psycho, with Anthony Hopkins as Hitchock, Helen Mirren as Mrs. Hitchcock, and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh. Add in Vertigo's claiming of the top spot on the Sight & Sound poll, and it seems like the Master of Suspense is having more of a moment than usual. Will it help this film win some awards, or is all this hype for the birds?
