Ian McKellen to Star in a Gay UK Sitcom from ‘Family Guy’ Writer

UK network ITV has just signed two-time Oscar nominee Sir Ian McKellen to star alongside Derek Jacobi as an elderly gay couple in a new series called Vicious Old Queens, Comedy.co.uk reports. McKellen and Jacobi, of course, are both real-life gay guys. A series of six 30-minute episodes are expected to air in April 2013. Vicious Old Queens was created by ex-Family Guy and Will & Grace writer/producer Gary Janetti. McKellen also recently starred in a mockumentary pilot that’s in development, in which he played his fictional brother, the head of a South London drama school. Sir Ian McKellen has proven to be a capable comedic actor in a memorable guest starring stint on Ricky Gervais’s Extras and as a one-time SNL host, and it’s nice to see he’s taking a break from Middle-earth to flex his comedy chops.
