Not exactly a surprise, but Girls executive producer Judd Apatow reports that Lena Dunham’s Emmy-winning comedy already has the go-ahead to shoot a third season, and well ahead of the show’s second-season premiere. “We’re about to shoot the third season of Girls,” he says while promoting his new film, This Is 40, in a video interview for The DP/30 Channel (right around the 34:35 mark). Apatow mentions that Dunham even lent a hand with his movie: “She’s such a great writer and creative person, she helped me with my script, so we’re trading scripts back and forth. I get inspired by reading her work every week.” Filming on season two of Girls, which returns January 13, wrapped in September. When asked about the prospect of a third season, an HBO spokesperson said simply, “We’re looking forward to the launch of season two and hope to have good news shortly thereafter.”
