Today, the titles of 25 films selected to be preserved in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry were announced by the Librarian of Congress (yes, that’s a real job/person), and a few well-known comedies made the list. Six of the 25 films this year were comedies (or comedy-dramas), and they are A Christmas Story (1983), A League of Their Own (1992), Slacker (1991), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), Sons of the Desert (1933), and Born Yesterday (1950). Also, a bunch of non-comedies like The Matrix and some other stuff made the list too, but that junk doesn’t concern us here because this is a comedy website, and we are aggressively intolerant of all things that are not comedy.
