Fox Picks Up Animated Series Murder Police

MURDER POLICE: FOX has ordered the new animated comedy MURDER POLICE. Focusing on a dedicated, but inept detective and his colleagues, the series is expected to debut during the 2013-2014 season. Here are your Murder Police, America.

Fox has officially picked up the series Murder Police, an animated show from Jason Ruiz and former Family Guy showrunner/executive producer David Goodman. It will riff on the traditional cop show with Ruiz providing the voice of the good cop, Manuel Sanchez, and Will Sasso voicing the bad cop, Tommy Margaretti. Horatio Sanz and Penny Marshall will also voice characters. (Yes, that Penny Marshall.) This is Fox’s first animated series order in two years — they last tried with Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite — and their most recent attempt at animated success beyond patriarchal family comedies. Maybe if the cop stuff fails to gain traction, they can just do a series-long, Family Guy–esque cutaway to a show about the bonehead Sanchez relating to his wife and kids.
