“David Mamet’s austerity program isn’t working,” New York’s Scott Brown wrote of The Anarchist, calling it “strangely gassy.” Audiences seem to agree: The Patti LuPone– and Debra Winger–starring production will close on December 16, after 23 previews and seventeen performances. When reached for comment, David Mamet said “Fuck” a lot. (We did not actually talk to David Mamet.)
