Newt Gingrich Is Coming to ‘Parks and Rec’

Parks and Recreation is racking up an impressive roster of real-life politician guest stars. Joe Biden and John McCain each cameoed on the show earlier this year, and now, ex-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will be appearing in an upcoming episode, the Indy Star reports. The Parks and Rec gang was filming a scene at St. Elmo’s Steak House in Indianapolis with the male contingent of the show’s cast when Gingrich happened to be there. Showrunner/co-creator Michael Schur “quickly huddled with the episode’s writer and director to incorporate Gingrich into the script.” While in Indianapolis, the Parks and Rec guys also took this photo (and presumably filmed a scene) with the Indianapolis Colts, so they’ve all had a pretty exciting Midwest shoot so far. Parks star Rob Lowe tweeted about the Gingrich run-in: “Latest surprise drop by on set: Speaker Newt Gingrich! So we made up a scene and put him in!! #AllHappeningInIndy.” With the NBC sitcom all of the sudden becoming a hot spot for cameos from the country’s best-known politicians, how long before Michael Schur and his Parks crew are able to snag a Barack Obama cameo?
