Tina Fey and Robert Carlock Are Developing a New Show for NBC Together

In a delightful interview with her Golden Globes co-host Amy Poehler for The Hollywood Reporter, Tina Fey revealed that she’s currently developing a new show with her 30 Rock executive producer/co-showruner Robert Carlock and her husband, 30 Rock executive producer and composer Jeff Richmond. Fey signed a new four-year deal with Universal last year to develop new shows for NBC, but this is the first we’ve heard of her re-teaming with Carlock on the project, which is still in its very early stages. In fact, Fey, Carlock, and Richmond haven’t even settled on an idea yet. Says Fey, “Right now, we’re moving out of our old office, just trying to figure out where our new office will be, where Robert Carlock and Jeff Richmond and I can try to think of a new TV show.”

30 Rock wrapped production last month and the one-hour finale will air January 31st, but one key member of the show who recently signed a new deal with NBC, Alec Baldwin, won’t be involved in Fey and Carlock’s new project. When asked if she’s talked with Baldwin about collaborating on a new show, Tina Fey laughed and said, “No, we have not. I don’t know what he wants to do.” The journalist also asked Fey if her new show would be a part of NBC’s plans to make broader comedies, she replied, “You know what? They’re wrong, and I’m going to wait that out. What they want is hits, but no one knows what that is. Remember when Jeff Zucker was like: ‘I’ve got a new plan! We’re only going to make hits!’ [Laughs.] It’s hard. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t be a network exec.” One thing’s for sure: whenever Tina Fey and Robert Carlock come up with an idea for their new show, write it, and film it, it’ll be something to look forward to.
