Zooey Deschanel got asked one of the biggest questions of her career at TCA this week, pressed by a reported to “explain her name.” Her curious reply: “My name? My first name or my last name?” The critic requested both. “My name on the show?” Deschanel asked, duly confounded. “Zooey. Zooey Deschanel,” the critic clarified. Ah. Cornered! “I was named after Franny and Zooey,” she answered. “My last name is French.” Case closed.
