Earlier this week, Girl Meets World cast its star, its “Girl.” And just like Boy Meets World, the world-meeter needs a great best friend. That friend will be named Maya Fox and played by 13-year-old Sabrina Carpenter. (Doesn’t “Sabrina Carpenter” sound like a perfect girl version of “Shawn Hunter”?) Here is her character description: “Maya is an only child and has never known her father, which makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her. She is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting the people in her sphere. A little bit edgy, she is as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her.” “Student of life” is obviously code for “not really a good student of school” — classic female-Shawn.

Speaking of Shawn, apparently he might be returning to the show, despite what Rider Strong originally said. Creator Michael Jacobs told The Hollywood Reporter that when Strong said he wasn’t going to be a part of the sequel, it was before the show was officially a go. Now that he is, Jacobs said, “Whoever wants to be part of this show will be.” Jacobs added, “Disney is taking great stock in articles that say ’these are the five things we demand from Girl Meets World.’” Okay, so fear not, fellow world-meeters.
