Will John Williams Score the New Star Wars?

At a recent John Williams performance, the 81-year-old composer behind every movie score you know by heart began waxing nostalgic about Star Wars before conducting the classic theme. “Neither I, nor George [Lucas], nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes … and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016 … so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George.” J.J. Abrams is directing Star Wars: Episode VII, and, as ComingSoon notes, Abrams almost always works with composer Michael Giacchino. We’ll have to see how this one plays out. They are going to have to use that theme in order for it to count as Star Wars, right?
