Just two months ago Senators John McCain, Dianne Feinstein and Carl Levin were so riled up about the torture depicted in Zero Dark Thirty that they denounced the film as “grossly inaccurate and misleading” and had the Senate Intelligence Committee launch an inquiry into the filmmakers’ contacts with the CIA. However, on Monday, a congressional aide told Reuters that the intelligence committee has closed its probe. The senators haven’t shared any of their findings, or their reasons for dropping the inquiry, but surely it has nothing to do with the film failing to pick up any major awards at the Oscars.
