With today's match-up between 30 Rock and Sex and the City, we're three quarters of the way through the first round of our Sitcom Smackdown bracket to determine the best sitcom of the past 30 years: So far, our writers have advanced Cheers, Arrested Development, Friends, Roseanne, The Simpsons, Community, and Sex and the City to the next rounds. Some of these decisions have followed the reader consensus. But some — like today's SATC victory — have made a corner of the Internet shake with rage at not just the victor, but at our one-judge system. But we want to remind you that this is not a laughtatorship: We are also staging a readers-poll bracket on our Facebook page, where you help decide who should advance in our shadow tourney. Each day we post the matchup on the Facebook page; to vote, just comment with which you prefer. The readers' bracket has already diverged, with Malcolm in the Middle topping Roseanne. The readers' bracket will reflect this and any other differences in the coming rounds, possibly leading to a different victor, much as it did in our Drama Derby bracket last year: Then, unlike the site's finals of The Wire versus The Sopranos (with The Wire taking it all), our readers came to the final decision of Buffy the Vampire Slayer against Breaking Bad, with the latter emerging as our readers' champion. So make sure to vote! It’s a good way to seek justice for Liz Lemon (assuming that’s the sort of thing you want to do. No judgment, Sex and the City fans!).
