Less than a year ago, Conan O’Brien visited David Letterman on the set of the Late Show where they took turns bashing their Tonight Show nemesis, Jay Leno. But last night, Letterman made a point of expressing condolences for the deposed king of late night, while Conan skirted any mention of either Leno or NBC, instead applauding Jimmy Fallon for winning a “fun gig.” (Cue sarcastic laughter from audience.) Jay Leno bowed out with jokes directed at Letterman — he didn’t get picked for the Tonight Show again — and NBC, while the two Jimmys seemed a bit confused.
