Cam and Mitch May Finally Wed on ‘Modern Family’

After yesterday’s court ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and overturned California’s Proposition 8, Modern Family’s Cameron and Mitchell may finally have the wedding they deserve. The show’s co-creator Christopher Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly that marriage is “something to explore” for the Los Angeles-based couple. “They would be feeling that a door has opened that was closed to them. Wouldn’t it be pretty tempting to think about walking through it?”

It’s not the first time that the idea of a wedding between the two has been suggested. Just last month, the ACLU launched a campaign to encourage the show to marry the couple, who have a 4-year-old daughter. Lloyd said they resisted the pressure to change their show, saying that the “ACLU had their heart in right place, but there was a silliness to the whole thing. They don’t exist, you know! They really are fiction.” Nonetheless, the writers were very happy with Supreme Court’s decision. “We were happy for Mitch and Cam today!” Lloyd said.
