As it turns out, Lou Reed had a totally legitimate reason for canceling on Coachella this year: he was undergoing liver transplant surgery. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former Velvet Underground frontman had the life saving procedure in April at a hospital in Cleveland. (New York’s medical facilities are too "dysfunctional," Reed’s wife Laurie Anderson said in an interview with The Times of London.) He’s now said to be recovering at home and has even started t'ai chi. "I don't think he'll ever totally recover from this, but he'll certainly be back to doing [things] in a few months," Anderson added. Reed himself took to his Facebook page on Saturday afternoon to let fans know, "I am a triumph of modern medicine, physics and chemistry. I am bigger and stronger than stronger than ever."
