Michael Douglas Would Like to Clarify That Oral Sex Comment

"Whoa, everybody."

Michael Douglas stormed the Internet on Sunday when he, according to the Guardian, either insinuated or flat-out said his throat cancer came courtesy of oral sex. Now Douglas's rep is trying to scale back the Michael Douglas for Mayor of Sextown 2014 campaign a little bit, offering this clarification: "Michael Douglas did not say cunnilingus was the cause of his cancer. It was discussed that oral sex is a suspected cause of certain oral cancers as doctors in the article point out but he did not say it was the specific cause of his personal cancer." The Guardian posted a 30-second snippet of its interview to "prove" Douglas asserted exactly what everyone originally thought he did, but it's pretty unclear — the remark sounds wry and Douglas chuckles a bit. (Also, horrible audio quality.)

Douglas offered the final word at an American Cancer Society event in New York on Monday, saying, "Just so we all understand, I think we would all love to know where our cancer comes from. I simply to a reporter tried to give a PSA announcement about HPV and a virus that can cause oral cancers, and is one of the few areas of cancers that can be controlled, and there are vaccinations that kids can get. So that was my attempt."
