After a weekend atop the box office and hellsome positive reviews, The Purge is of course getting a sequel, Universal and producer Jason Blum announced. The current thriller — made for a paltry $3 million — is set in the near future, when one of America’s beloved traditions is a twelve-hour lawless free-for-all. The original focused on one rich family’s ordeal, but a Purge 2 could pretty easily just focus on a different family’s terrible-horrible purge day. No word yet on whether writer-director James DeMonaco will return, nor any word on those terrifying masks people are wearing in the promo images.
