Jim Rash wears a variety of crazy costumes as the dean on Community, but behind the scenes, he's more of a man of many hats: In addition to his Adapted Screenplay Oscar win for The Descendants, Rash and his creative partner Nat Faxon co-directed this summer's coming-of-age comedy The Way, Way Back, which had a gangbusters (and lucrative) premiere back at the Sundance Film Festival and comes out in limited release July 5. Though the movie is toplined by Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell, Faxon and Rash also appear in supporting roles … but as this exclusive, extremely trustworthy video proves, Rash didn't have a lock on his part, even though he co-wrote and co-directed the movie. In fact, several of his Community costars (plus Will Forte!) went in to audition for Rash's role, and you can see the fruitless fruits of their labors right here. Spoiler alert: Joel McHale is a troublemaker, Yvette Nicole Brown sings, and Gillian Jacobs is very, very dramatic.
