ESPN announced its next batch of “30 for 30” documentaries, and at long last, Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding are getting the documentary treatment. Tonya and Nancy, currently scheduled to air November 5, is from American Teen director Nanette Burstein. (ESPN Films bigwig Connor Schell said at the TCA conference yesterday that Kerrigan herself had still not agreed to an interview, but that they’re trying to convince her.) The other “30 for 30” docs that were announced cover surf legend Eddie Aikau, former ABA team the Spirit of St. Louis, the rivalry between boxers Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran, former Islanders owner John Spano, and tennis star Jimmy Connors. This coming January will be the twentieth anniversary of the Greatest Ice-Skating Scandal of All Time, so get ready to unearth your Jeff Gillooly time capsules.
