Help Fund an ‘Army Man’-Esque Comedy Zine Featuring Pieces by ‘Onion,’ ‘Colbert,’ and ‘Community’ Writers

John Harris, a former writer for The Onion and The Onion News Network, is putting together a comedy zine inspired by George Meyer’s Army Man, and he’s turned to Kickstarter to seek funding to cover printing costs and finish the project. Featuring humor pieces from writers for Community, 30 Rock, The Daily Show, The Onion, The Colbert Report, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Kroll Show, and Adult Swim, the humor zine is called Pendulous Breasts Quarterly (or PBQ for short). This 100-plus-page volume is the second issue of PBQ and it’s entitled PBQ Presents: Madame Bainbridge’s Compendium Of Primo Dong. You can check out pieces from the first installment of the magazine here, here, and here.

“I love Army Man,” John Harris tells us. “I hadn’t really seen anything like it, so I thought I’d try to do a project inspired by it (I don’t think anyone could ever replicate it, obviously).” He adds, “I’m in the enviable position to know a ton of really funny, incredibly talented people who like me enough to let me look at their short prose stuff for consideration.”

The second issue of PBQ will feature contributions from Dan Guterman (Onion, Colbert, Community), Carol Kolb (Onion, Kroll Show, Onion News Network, Community), Adam Wilson (Flatscreen), Bob Powers (Girls Are Pretty), Chris Regan (Daily ShowThe Jeselnik Offensive), Sam Means (30 Rock, Daily Show), Emily Flake (New Yorker cartoonist), and more. “It’s really just a thing for its own sake,” explains Harris. “There isn’t an agenda, other than to make something good and funny, that hopefully people will enjoy, and present material with a voice that perhaps you won’t really see elsewhere.”
