According to the suit, Marvin Gaye’s family and Funkadelic representatives have been threatening legal action over the similarities between “Blurred Lines” and Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up.” So Robin Thicke and Pharrell filed a preemptive suit telling them to back off, which is apparently a thing you can do in the legal world. “Being reminiscent of a ‘sound’ is not copyright infringement,” they claim. Katy Perry agrees 100 percent.
